Partygoers

Biography

Partygoers are humanoid entities from the Backrooms, infamous for their horrifying method of reproduction. Unlike other entities that simply hunt or kill, Partygoers actively convert their victims into their own kind through a grotesque and excruciatingly slow process. This transformation is limited strictly to bipedal, humanoid species, with other life forms spared from this particular fate, though they still end up as prey.

The infection begins when a viscous, slime-like substance adheres to the victim's body, spreading over them with a sickening deliberation. This substance is not just sticky; it seems to pulse with a life of its own, writhing as it consumes and reconfigures the victim's physical form. Each cell, each fiber of their being is reshaped to mirror the twisted visage of a Partygoer, leaving no trace of who they once were. When multiple Partygoers converge on a single victim, the transformation intensifies, as if the presence of more of these creatures hastens the change. By the time the transformation completes, the new Partygoer is unrecognizable, devoid of memory, identity, or individuality. A new face in a collective swarm of smiling monsters. This gruesome, viral form of reproduction has earned them the label of a "zombie plague" within the Backrooms, capable of overwhelming and converting literally any unlucky soul who stumbles into their clutches.

Partygoers' origins are shrouded in mystery. They are unique not only for their high numbers but for their disturbing connection to reality itself despite obviously not even being from it. They are also the only ones with their own specific sub-level and have the highest population. Records of Partygoers have surfaced across numerous universes and civilizations, appearing in ancient texts, carved on cave walls, and sketched in primitive artwork dating back sextillions of years. These ancient depictions suggest that Partygoers have haunted the Multiverse's stories for eons.

They are perhaps considered to be the most feared and dangerous entity ever created due to their sheer unnatural brute strength and their unsettling combination of patience, intelligence, and insatiable drive to spread. Their deadly, infectious "consume and reproduce" tactic even outshines any sort of raw power, making them a pervasive threat that even the strongest beings cannot easily escape. With their ability to turn anyone, no matter their strength or abilities, into another Partygoer.

Theorists who have studied Partygoers suggest that, if even one were to escape the Backrooms and enter a populated reality, the consequences would be catastrophic. Unleashed upon an unprepared civilization, a single Partygoer could start a chain reaction of infection that would spread at an exponential rate. Within days, entire populations could be transformed, the infection rippling across continents, wiping out all life in its path. On a universal, or even Multiversal, scale, they could eclipse the threat posed by cosmic beings and gods, not through raw power, but through sheer numbers and unstoppable spread. Unlike these grandiose beings, who wield immense power but have clear limitations, Partygoers are insidious and relentless.

Their simplicity is their advantage; they don't need power, only a touch, a scrape, a single connection to begin their infection. This ruthless efficiency allows them to reach and corrupt anyone, from everyday mortals to the most powerful beings. And with their ability to erase and consume every trace of individuality from their victims, they are capable of rapidly transforming a thriving world into a uniform, monstrous army of grinning, red-balloon-clutching fiends. No one is safe; every entity, no matter how powerful, is but a potential Partygoer waiting to happen.

Appearance

Partygoers are deeply unsettling in appearance, combining familiarity with disturbing elements. They resemble humanoid figures, but with slightly blocky, disproportionate builds, lacking a distinct neck or visible joints, which gives them a puppet-like rigidity. Their bodies are made of a rough, brownish-yellow material, resembling old, cracked leather or worn-out fabric. The texture is decayed, almost crumbling in places, and emits a faint, acrid scent reminiscent of decayed flesh and mildew. Small, reddish-brown stains, appearing as though smeared carelessly over their bodies and dot their limbs and torso. These stains resemble dried blood, remnants of past victims, yet they seem to be a permanent part of the Partygoer's anatomy.

Their faces are devoid of functional features, marked only by a disturbingly crude smile and two eyes. These "features" are crudely etched or painted onto their heads, giving the impression of a child's twisted rendition of a happy face. The smile is frozen and never-changing, creating a contrast between the grotesque "festivity" it conveys and the underlying malevolence that it hides.

Each Partygoer clutches what appears to be a bright red balloon in its right hand. The balloon's smooth, glossy surface glows with an unnatural shine, giving it a surreal, almost cartoonish quality. This balloon serves as a marker of their presence; A symbol of innocence perverted into a deadly lure.

Behavior

Despite their simplistic appearance, Partygoers exhibit an unsettling degree of intelligence and organization. They are not mindless drones; instead, they form loose communities, bound by a shared purpose and an weird form of communication. They "speak" in a garbled, incomprehensible language, a mix of high-pitched tones, and otherworldly sounds with no known equivalent. Though incomprehensible to others, Partygoers appear to understand one another perfectly, exchanging information and coordinating efforts seamlessly. Individually, a Partygoer may appear sluggish, almost clumsy, but in groups, they display an uncanny collective intelligence. Together, they can dismantle obstacles, disable defenses, and find alternate routes, often leaving behind small signs of their passage: trails of confetti, floating balloons, and eerie, childlike graffiti. The origin of these objects are unknown but are seemingly of the planet Earth's origin, as is with the case of their red balloons, however they can be interpreted as traditional latex constructed helium spheres for entertainment across several cultures throughout the history of the Multiverse that produce similar creations akeen to the ones on Earth.

Either way, they serve as both a lure and a warning to those who understand their significance, leading unsuspecting victims further into the Partygoers' territory.

Level Fun is the epicenter of Partygoer activity, a twisted, nightmarish parody of celebration. It is a sub-level of the Backrooms accessible only by rare chance, typically via a tonal shift or a unique, upward-leading staircase within Level 0. The level itself feels artificial, as if constructed rather than naturally formed, suggesting that it may be a modification of Level 0 rather than an independent space. Within Level Fun, Partygoers gather in clusters, interacting with one another in a way that seems to mock traditional social behavior. The rooms are filled with chaotic decorations from across every single universe that may have no-clipped at some point, giving it the look of a festival gone horribly wrong. The walls and floors are stained with ominous streaks of dark liquid, and the air is thick with an odor that suggests complete decay and neglect. This space is their home, a place where they regroup, socialize, and prepare for their next hunt. Despite their predatory nature, they display a disturbing level of social sophistication, more akin to a twisted society than a mere pack of monsters.
